After surviving an assassination attempt, Pakistan’s former prime minister, Imran Khan has suspended his "long march", right on the doorstep of Islamabad. It had perhaps averted a clash between his supporters and government troops.
The crisis has been delayed, but not averted. The PTI Chairman is determined to challenge the government, and has disbanded local governments in two provinces to force early elections.
At a time when Pakistan is in the midst of a deep economic crisis, will the political showdown tip the country into bankruptcy? Or could a fresh mandate be the way out of its many troubles?
