Itay Epshtain, a specialist in international humanitarian law, stated in a message on X that “Israel has already annexed 56 square kilometers (21.6 square miles) of Gaza’s occupied territory, referred to as the ‘Netzarim Territory.’”
According to Epshtain, who serves as a special adviser to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Israel has similar intentions for regions in North Gaza and Rafah “to be permanently acquired, while 2.2 million Palestinians are confined in Khan Younis and Al Bureij,” as reported by Al Jazeera.
He further emphasized that “The UN Security Council should refer Israel’s application of armed force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of Palestine, which constitutes a violation of the prohibition of aggression—a fundamental norm of international law—to the International Criminal Court.”
